Update

Oksana's Total was $4,327 during this campaign.   Thank you to everyone who helped, check out her total here:

http://reecesrainbow.org/sponsorship/angeltree2010/angeltreesponsorpage

Since some people donated directly and mailed in checks, etc, I am just trying to see if they will release the names of those individuals.   I'm not sure yet if they will, so if you were one that sent it in directly please leave a message and I will add you to my list of people who have donated so far so I can pull a winner!    I know my chip in to the side says only $202, but that was only the amount that was donated through this website, not in total!  Plus there should be an additional $200 coming in to Oksana.   So really her grant is up to $4500.   (Or maybe over). I know the chip in also says only 3 donors however 1 of those donors was a bunch of donors who all chipped in together.   So thank you!

I should have a winner up soon.

Oksana's Grant is now up to $2795!

Just a quick up-date!   Oksana's Grant was originally at $95, it is now up $2,795!!!   She needs a family to commit to her, in January she will be transferred over to the mental institution.   I'm hoping someone comes forward to commit to her!   Let's help raise that bar higher so she can get more money and hopefully someone will come forward.   $2,795 is a lot of money but adoption can be around $25,000!   So she's 10% there.   The more money the easier and quicker someone might come forward.    You can contribute through the chip-in or send me an email!   Thank you to all my friends who have already donated.   I know my chip in is low but mostly everyone has come forward in real life!

You can check out Oksana's Grant Here:  http://reecesrainbow.org/category/waitingchildren/ds-3-5

Fundraiser - $100 to Scotch N Sirloin + Pair of Movie Tickets!!!

The object of the Christmas Warrior Program is to try to make as much as possible for Oksana's adoption grant fund.   I know times are tough for everyone, so I have decided that for every dollar you donate to Reeces Rainbow on behalf of Oksana, I will enter you into a raffle.  For every $5.00 you donate you will get one extra chance at the raffle.

To make things easy for you, I have set up a chip in that will go directly to Reece's Rainbow and you will get a receipt for tax purposes (the chip in will go to a secure site, and you can pay with paypal if you have it or you can pay with a credit card, just put the dollar amount you would like to donate).   If you feel more comfortable you can send me a check made payable to Reece's Rainbow or I can accept Cash as well and will send in at the end of the fundraiser.

For the raffle prize:

The Grand Prize will be $100 gift certificate to the Scotch and Sirloin restaurant (valid for either the Syracuse or Rochester one).  Along with 2 tickets to the Movies.
Information on Scotch and Sirloin : http://www.scotchnsirloin.com/

Now for the really good news:
I will keep adding prizes to the raffle as money increases and as I get donations or I find stuff in my own house worth putting up. So I'll keep increasing your chances of winning with the same $1.00 spent!

How the raffle will work:  For the money collected through the chip in, I will get a list of all the donors and the dollar amount.  So I will add your name to a spreadsheet for the amount of times you donate (donate $1.00= 1 entry, donate $5 = 6 entries, donate $10 = 12 entries, etc).  If you send me a check for Reece's Rainbow or give me cash, I will add your name to the spreadsheet x donation.  At the end of the fundraiser I will use random.org to select a number between 1 and however many I end up selling and whomever is that number will win the first prize....and I will keep using random.org for any additional prizes.

I do ask that you check back on this blog when the raffle ends to see if you are the winner!!!

Even if you can or can't donate, Please spread the word about this raffle!!!

About Reeces Rainbow

Q.  What’s Reeces Rainbow?
A.   501 (c)3 organization that promotes the international adoption of children with Down syndrome by raising money to offer adoption grants on waiting children. They give adoptive families the extra financial help they need to bring a child with Down syndrome home from a miserable existence in overseas orphanages.

Q.  Why donate?
A.  A lot more people will come forward and adopt if only they had the financial means to.   By setting up grants for the children we are helping to make them more adoptable for families that maybe wouldn’t be able to afford it.  International adoption costs on average $25K.

Q.  Why not adopt domestically?
A.  Well there are all different reasons, but the bottom line is that every child needs a home.

Q.  What happens if they don’t find homes?
A.   Unlike with “normal” children, after a child with down syndrome reaches approximately age 5, the child is moved out of the baby orphanage and into a mental institution.   Yes, a mental institution!   Children with down syndrome are not Mental!  However if they are not adopted by age 5 they are deemed unadoptable and transferred to a mental institution.   The care in these mental institutions is so bad, that only 10% of children survive the mental institution.   That’s why it’s so important to help bring a family to them.    If you want to know the Hard Truth, check out Maria’s webpage: http://www.wix.com/brookeness/maria

Q.  Why don’t we try to stop them from transferring them to mental institutions?
A.  Given that were are dealing with international countries if we try to impose our ways, they can rebel and refuse to adopt out to USA or Canada or whomever tries to get them to change.   Along with possible other problems that may arise with foreign affairs, so we must accept it and work around it through positive adoption. Reece's Rainbow though is now offering a "connect the rainbow" program where they are trying to educate that children with down syndrome are a blessing and help them raise them.  Read more here: http://reecesrainbow.org/sponsorship/connecting-the-rainbow
